Because red hair has a wide range of characteristics, people with it are often attributed many broad traits. These people are believed to possess a fiery disposition, to be rash and to be quick to respond to change. They aren’t necessarily true. There are plenty of fiery redheads. People with red hair feel pain differently than other people. This is why anesthesia reacts differently to them than it does to other people. Is this true or just a fabrication, like the old story about intemperance.
This may be true. There have been many studies over the years that looked into how redheads deal with pain, as well as the dose of painkillers required. Like most broad statements, the belief redheads have a different way of processing pain is difficult to prove. However, evidence does exist to support the notion that there is more Ambulatory Anaesthesia.
Natural redheads carry a mutation known as MC1R in the genes that make the pigment in hair and skin. Genetic researchers claim that the same mutation which affects pigment also triggers the hormone Pheomelanin to give skin the rubicund and reddish hue. It is more common in females than it is among men. These hormones affect melanocytes. Melanin is the pigment that colors your skin. Pheomelanin is also thought to affect the brain’s pain receptors. These are the cells that control the body’s pain processing.
According to at most two studies, people with dark hair react differently to pain than those with lighter hair. Redheads have a lower tolerance to thermal pain (that is, pain caused by temperature changes). This could be linked to a natural lack of vitaminK.
Another study was conducted to determine how much redheads need, but the data is not conclusive. Some researchers believe that redheads require higher amounts of anesthesia in order to block pain. A second study, however, found that women with dark hair require less pentazocine.
